In search of a reliable presence between the posts, Stoke City has placed its bet on a player from Rotherham, aiming to have a young figure who can foster healthy competition on the bench at The Potters and compete for the position of Stoke City's first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season.

Viktor Johansson, 25, joins Stoke City from Rotherham. The Swedish goalkeeper had a somewhat inconsistent season in the EFL Championship. This is evident from the analysis of Rotherham's performance during the 2023/2024 season, where they were relegated to the third tier of English football.

For Johansson, the season was not his best, as he conceded an average of 2 goals per game over 45 matches. This is a significantly negative aspect for the Swedish goalkeeper. However, he also had his positive moments with his previous club. During those 45 EFL Championship matches, he made 180 saves and kept 5 clean sheets.

The transfer market has already begun for Stoke City

Great performance and security are expected from Stoke City in the upcoming season, hoping for excellent work from Viktor Johansson and that he brings his shot-stopping abilities and leadership to The Potters' goal.

With two months left before the EFL Championship resumes, Stoke City will also need to prepare some signings in the midfield and attack, hoping to finally find a forward who fits well with The Potters to avoid struggles with goal contributions next season.

Lastly, the club's youth academy will have an important role in the preseason, giving playing time to several players, including those from the youth teams, to showcase their potential and face the 2024/2025 season in the best way possible.
