A Difficult Match
Steve Schumacher fielded a strong and competitive starting eleven, arguably the best lineup Stoke City currently has, but it wasn't enough to secure a win.
West Brom Albion took the lead in the 18th minute through Carlan Grant. Stoke City found themselves trailing early and struggled to regain their footing. However, Lewis Koumas scored his first goal for the club in the 29th minute, assisted by Million Manhoef, signaling Stoke City's intent to compete at the highest level in this match. Unfortunately, just a few minutes later, in the 31st minute, Josh Maja scored to restore West Brom's lead, ending any hopes of a Stoke City comeback. The first half ended with West Brom Albion leading 2-1.
The second half saw no change in the scoreline, and despite Steve Schumacher's attempts to make tactical changes and inject fresh energy into the team, Stoke City couldn't find the equalizer and ultimately suffered another defeat.
A Tough Position in the League
Stoke City now sits in 17th place in the EFL Championship with 3 points from 3 matches, a far from ideal start for Steve Schumacher's side. They now turn their attention to their next match against Middlesbrough. Additionally, they must prepare for their encounter with Plymouth Argyle on August 31, which will be part of the fourth round of the EFL Championship.
