Ryan Sweeney is someone that many fans will definitely not know. The 20-year old defender is currently on loan at League 1 in Bristol Rovers. He also featured in many Republic of Ireland U-21 national teams as well.

Sweeney joined Stoke City from AFC Wimbledon in August of 2016 and now he is in his second season on loan at Bristol. He made 30 appearances in total, featuring in many competitions like EFL Trophy and EFL Cup as well.

More from All Stoked Up

This season, the center back is playing more like a striker – finding the back of the net three times already in just 14 games. His discipline was also impressive as he was only carded twice so far this season.

His last appearance for the club was on November 8th against Swindon Town in the EFL Trophy. Even though Sweeney managed to score a goal and play the full game, the Rovers suffered a 2:4 defeat. He missed the latest League One game against Scunthorpe United due to international duties.

It is difficult to tell rather or not Sweeney will make an impact in Stoke City. He is already twenty years old and he is only playing in League One. Hopefully, he can grow as a player more and make his mark.
