Stoke City U21 competes in Premier League 2, a team that showed promise at the start of the season but has gradually been exposed as a side weak in defense and lacking a winning mentality.

This was evident in a match between two teams at the bottom of the table, Stoke City and Middlesbrough, where Stoke City was expected to showcase their work under Ryan Shawcross on home turf. However, the game ended in disappointment, with Stoke suffering another defeat.

Tough Loss for Stoke City: 1-3

In this latest round of Premier League 2, the performance of Ryan Shawcross' side was far from satisfactory. The team began the match with a positive, winning mentality, but that quickly faded as Middlesbrough U21 showed their hunger for goals. By the 22nd minute, Middlesbrough took the lead with a goal from Omaru King, putting Stoke in a difficult position. However, just before halftime, Darius Lipsuik scored an important equalizer for Stoke City.

As the second half progressed, substitutions were made by both teams, and it wasn’t until the 80th minute that the deadlock was broken. Substitute Charlie Lennon scored Middlesbrough’s second goal, proving to be the surprise factor. In stoppage time, Judah Tayu Tawuia added a third for Middlesbrough, sealing a 3-1 defeat for Stoke City U21 at home.

This result leaves Stoke City U21 in a very precarious position. After six matches in Premier League 2, they have suffered five defeats and earned just one draw, leaving them with one point and sitting at the bottom of the standings out of 26 teams.

This situation is alarming for the club, as the poor results signal that the youth academy is not producing positive outcomes. The academy teams must also demonstrate competitiveness and show leadership, as these young players are expected to eventually progress to the first team at Stoke City.
