Phillips joins Stoke City with hopes of making a significant impact this season, bringing his defensive skills to Steve Schumacher's squad. The player comes off a fantastic season with Plymouth Argyle, where he was also on loan for a year. He even won the Pilgrims’ Young Player of the Season award, showcasing his potential with outstanding performances that highlight his bright future.

Ben Gibson is expected to play a crucial role in Phillips' development, using his experience to help the young defender adapt once again to the Championship. Phillips previously competed in the EFL Championship a few years ago, at just 17 years old, making 14 appearances with Blackburn Rovers. Now, he returns to the Championship to represent The Potters, with hopes of leaving a strong impression on Stoke City fans.

Sporting Director Jon Walters also spoke highly of Phillips, describing him as a top-level defender who can bring youth, hunger, and competitive drive to positively contribute to the team.

"We’re delighted that our conversations with Ashley and with Tottenham have led to them each believing that Stoke City is the right club for him amid no shortage of competition. It’s clear that he has all the attributes to become an outstanding defender at this level and beyond, and we’re all excited to see what he can achieve for us this season."
