After securing a fantastic 1-0 victory against Plymouth Argyle, Stoke City now faces a new month of competition. This September, they will play some very interesting matches where the pressure may not be too high, but the team must stay focused to keep earning points in the EFL Championship and compete at the highest level in the EFL Cup.

We're also waiting to see how the transfer window closes for The Potters. Steve Schumacher has done a great job, but it seems no new players will be joining Stoke City.

Four Matches in September

It was expected that the second month of the 2024-25 season would be a busy one for Stoke City, but that isn’t the case. They will only play four matches this month, three in the EFL Championship and one in the EFL Cup, where they've already reached the third round. There will be a break due to the FIFA international fixtures, so Stoke City won't play again until September 14th when they face Oxford United in the EFL Championship. A few days later, they will host Fleetwood Town in the EFL Cup. The other two matches will be on September 20th against Hull City at home and on September 28th against Middlesbrough, once again away, after having eliminated them in the EFL Cup.

The expectation is that Stoke City will advance to the fourth round of the EFL Cup and secure nine points from their three EFL Championship matches.

Steve Schumacher’s side is coming off a strong bounce-back, with a 5-0 win over Middlesbrough and a 1-0 victory against Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Championship. This impressive return to domestic competition currently places them 10th in the standings with six points from four matches.

September is expected to be a month where Stoke City continues to grow, with their forwards maintaining the effectiveness they’ve shown in the last two matches. The defense has also been fantastic, keeping clean sheets in both games, which should give fans a lot of confidence as they look forward to what’s to come in September.
