As the year progresses, the international competitions of two major footballing continents begin, with the Copa America and the EURO being the highlights of this time of year.
Stoke City does not have many players participating in these tournaments with their national teams. However, there was one player expected to participate in the Copa America with the Jamaican national team, but things took a turn, leading to his removal from the squad.
A Poor Handling by Jamaica towards Daniel Johnson
This concerns Daniel Johnson, who at 31 years old, was looking forward to competing with Jamaica in the 2024 Copa America in the United States. However, the national team excluded him from this competition after he was initially called up for the preparatory friendlies against the Dominican Republic, where he was on the bench against the Dominican Republic and started in the 1-0 victory against the Dominican Republic.
Afterwards, the final roster for the Copa America completely omitted Daniel Johnson, a poor move by Jamaica, as Leon Bailey from Aston Villa was included in the list, replacing Johnson.

However, Leon Bailey reportedly refused to play for Jamaica in this Copa America, but his call-up was already made. Hence, it remains a mystery what will happen with this spot until further notice from the Jamaican national team.
For the Stoke City player, this is tough news as he was hoping to compete in this edition in the United States with his national team, facing the best teams in America before returning to join The Potters.
It appears that the Stoke City midfielder will have some more days of rest before resuming training with The Potters on July 1, with his first preseason match set for July 11 against Chester FC.
