A Tough Game for The Potters
There were high hopes for Narcis Pelach’s debut managing Stoke City, especially after the dismissal of Steve Schumacher. The Catalan coach took charge of the team immediately, with the intention of delivering positive results and continuing the sporting project led by Jonathan Walters, who had signed several players in the transfer window to build a young squad with a bright future.
But this game proved to be extremely difficult for Stoke City. Despite playing at home, they were unable to assert dominance over Hull City and found themselves in a tough match, ultimately suffering a painful defeat.
In the 30th minute, Ben Wilmot opened the scoring with a brilliant assist from Bae Jun-Ho, raising expectations that the match could be Stoke City’s for the taking. But Hull City fought back and began to control the game with superior possession and clear goal-scoring chances.
The second half saw a much more competitive Hull City, and an unfortunate moment arrived for Stoke City when Eric Bocat committed a penalty in the 63rd minute. Although Viktor Johansson saved Kasey Palmer's initial penalty, Palmer managed to score from the rebound.
Just minutes later, in the 77th minute, Regan Slater scored to make it 1-2, putting Stoke City in a critical position. Then, only two minutes later, Ben Wilmot scored an own goal, making it 1-3 and sealing a very difficult loss for The Potters.
It was a poor debut for Narcis Pelach, and there is a lot of work to do ahead of the next match. Stoke City will have an 8-day break before facing Middlesbrough on September 28 in another crucial EFL Championship fixture, where they will hope to bounce back from this tough defeat against Hull City.
