During the first half, there was no clear sign of a great performance from the visitors. Although Stoke City dominated possession, they struggled to find the back of the net.
However, Coventry City came out with a different approach in the second half, putting more pressure on Stoke City and stealing possession. The game changed with a crucial substitution: Lewis Baker came on for Wouter Burger in the 76th minute and scored the winning goal just two minutes later, thanks to an assist from Million Manhoef. Stoke City controlled the game better towards the end, securing all three points with their first win of the EFL Championship season.
The match was quite exciting as Stoke City started the season strongly. Steve Schumacher's positive pre-season work was evident, and the team is now in 7th place in the EFL Championship, with teams ahead of them having scored more than one goal in the first round.
