A Winning Mentality and a Solid Second Half Performance
This victory broke a two-game winless streak, showing that Stoke City has a winning mentality and a solid game development. Despite the challenges, Pelach’s tactical adjustments in the second half proved crucial. Stoke City fielded a lineup quite similar to the one used against Derby County, and we saw forward Tom Cannon back in his best form of the season.
While Blackburn Rovers dominated possession in the first half, having the ball for 63% of the time, the first half ended without any goals, and the score was tied 0-0.
However, the second half brought a fascinating turn of events. In the 57th minute, Enda Stevens provided a brilliant assist for Million Manhoef to score the first goal of the match, putting Stoke City ahead 1-0. As the minutes passed, Blackburn Rovers pushed hard for an equalizer, but they were met with incredible saves from Viktor Johansson, who kept them at bay.
A Last-Minute Penalty Seals the Win
Toward the end of the match, Stoke City was awarded a penalty after a foul on them, and Tom Cannon converted it into a goal, scoring once again for the second consecutive time in the EFL Championship. Despite Blackburn’s dominance in possession, Stoke City made the most of their opportunities and claimed an important 2-0 victory, earning three crucial points that put them in a stronger position in the EFL Championship standings.
