Stoke City enjoyed a successful run of results late last week by taking four points from a possible six points. This comes from a win against Sheffield United and a draw against Burnley. Following those two matches, two of Stoke City’s first team squad have earned Team of the Week honors, per WhoScored.com.

Team of the Week honors are based off of a player’s overall rating for that match week. For example, last week there were three different Teams of the Week, given the three different fixtures teams had over both weekends and midweek.

Tariqe Fosu Awarded Team of the Week for Burnley Match

Stoke City’s first player to be included in the WhoScored Team of the Week, was wing-back/forward Tariqe Fosu for his contributions against Burnley midweek. Fosu came out of that 1-1 draw with an 8.1 player rating.

A big part of that 8.1 rating for Fosu was his fantastic late cross that assisted Harry Clarke in the team’s game-tying goal. Fosu in that match also collected five tackles, one interception, two clearances, and won three of four aerial duels he was a part of.

Phil Jagielka Awarded Team of the Week for Sheffield United Match

Phil Jagielka was The Potters next first teamer to be awarded a Team of the Week honor from last week. Jagielka had a fantastic match against Sheffield United in the teams 3-1 win, and it showed through with his player rating.

Jagielka for his efforts against The Blades scored an 8.3 player rating. The 40 year old center-back was helped to that rating by scoring the team’s second goal on a header and assisting on another goal. But just like Fosu, Jagielka was solid all around against Sheffield United.

Jagielka, in addition to that goal and assist, successfully connected on three long balls against The Blades, won two aerial duels, and had six total clearances. Jagielka will hope his latest showings will keep him in the club’s starting XI.
