Stoke City secured a vital win against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Monday night to move four points clear of the relegation spots.

A ninth-minute goal from Tyrese Campbell settled the match, with the Potters having to defend their own penalty box for much of the second half.

However, West Brom created very few clear openings and Stoke were fully deserving of their victory.

See how the players rated below.

Jack Butland – 7

Made a few decent stops, but it was his clean handling that stood out most. A few nice punches too, but was rarely properly tested.

Tommy Smith – 6

Decent defensively as always, but really doesn’t offer enough going the other way.

MOTM Danny Batth – 9

Immense performance. Put his body in the way of everything, won headers and made interceptions. Seemed to be in the right place at the right time.

Liam Lindsay – 6

Not his best performance with a clumsy foul and a couple of errant passes. Looks confident on the ball but sometimes to his detriment.

Bruno Martins-Indi – 7

A poor header in the first half led to a chance for West Brom from which they could have done better. Otherwise, good in the challenge with a few nice forays forward.

Joe Allen – 8

Not his greatest first half, but a brilliant second half. Created a great chance for Lee Gregory from which the forward should have done better.

Sam Clucas – 6

Tenacious in the centre of midfield but didn’t provide too much quality on the ball.

Nick Powell – 7

Great pass for the goal and put in an excellent shift. Would still like to see him get on the ball more often because he has real quality. Worry to see him go off injured.

Tom Ince – 6

Worked really well for the goal and got the all important assist. Became a bit anonymous as the game went on, but like Powell worked hard for the team.

James McLean – 6

Ditto Powell and Ince, this was not a game for Stoke City attackers.

Tyrese Campbell – 7

Looked really bright and scored inside 10 minutes with a smart finish. Stoke lacked threat when he went off with an injury that all Stoke supporters will hope is not too serious.

Substitutes

Lee Gregory – 5 (on for Campbell 25 mins)

Pretty poor in comparison to what Tyrese Campbell was producing early on. Missed with a good chance in the second half after great work from Joe Allen.

Jordan Cousins – 6 (on for Powell 71 mins)

Couple of decent blocks, helped shore things up.

Nathan Collins – N/A (on for Ince 86 mins)

On too late to rate.
