It doesn’t seem that long ago, that Charlie Adam was patrolling the Stoke City midfield and occasionally bottling penalties. Now instead of seeing the Scottish midfielder on the field, we see him criticising his teammates be it past or present. Charlie Adam has become Stoke City’s forgotten man.

It seems like Charlie Adam’s time at Stoke City is up, he is surplus to requirements in Gary Rowett’s eyes. Adam has made three appearances form the bench while the rest of the team he hasn’t even made the bench. It has been a long way down from a man who once scored from his own half against Chelsea. Last season wasn’t the greatest season for Adam, highlights include missing a last-minute penalty which would’ve sealed the win for Stoke City, gaining valuable points for Stoke in its survival bid and getting himself needlessly sent-off against Everton. It seems that Charlie Adam is no longer a cog in the Stoke City machine but rather a spare part.

It’s not all doom and gloom for Charlie Adam, the Scotsman is a fierce and determined player,  opportunities will open up over the course of the season. In fact, a similar scenario once happened to Adam under Tony Pulis, Stoke City were struggling and in a relegation dogfight, when Pulis played Adam and from that match onwards he remained part of Pulis’s team for the rest of the season. With the four-man midfield that Stoke City are playing, injuries and rotation, there is bound to be an opportunity for Charlie Adam, Rowett though seems to think that the future of Stoke City in the short term does not include Adam, his signing of Etebo certainly signifies that.

Charlie Adam may be the forgotten man of Stoke City but he certainly left some great memories for Stoke City fans.
