Stoke City forward Tyrese Campbell is reportedly set to turn down offers from Rangers and Celtic in order to sign a new deal with the Potters this month.
According to Sky Sports News reporter Rob Dorsett, Campbell has decided his future lies at the bet365 Stadium and will sign a new deal at the club in the next 24 hours. He adds that Michael O’Neill was a key reason behind Campbell’s decision.
The former Manchester City academy player is set to run out of contract at the end of this season and has been linked with a range of clubs, including both of the Old Firm rivals. However, it seems that the upturn in form Stoke have seen since O’Neill replaced Nathan Jones earlier this season has convinced the England youth international to stay.
Campbell has been a crucial part of that improved form and with Stoke yet to bring in any attacking additions this transfer window, it felt important that the club kept hold of one of their prized assets. With Campbell now a central figure at Stoke, not only would losing him have been a blow, but with the player out of contract stuck would have received next to no money following his departure.
The 20-year-old has scored five Championship goals so far this season and grabbed the winner on Monday night during Stoke’s 1-0 win over table toppers West Bromwich Albion.
Next up for the Potters is the visit of Swansea City on Saturday, with Stoke having the opportunity to go 19th with a win.
